Greetings,
I wanted to take a moment to update all families regarding our traditional 8th Grade Awards Ceremony. This is a long standing tradition at Mannion Middle School, and one of my favorite events of the year. Unfortunately, we were not able to have the event last year, and made the difficult decision to send student recognition through the mail. One year later, with the pandemic so close to being over, we are able to have an 8th Grade Awards Ceremony, but will have to meet very specific guidelines and requirements. The purpose of this letter is to outline our plan regarding the 2021 8th Grade Awards Ceremony.
Our plan is to hold two ceremonies during the school day. There will be :
- Ceremony for Cohort A on Tuesday, May 18 at 10:00 AM
- Ceremony for Cohort B on Thursday, May 20 at 10:00 AM
- Students in Cohort C, who are receiving an award, are invited to attend one of the ceremonies
Students from Cohort C will be assigned to either the Cohort A or B ceremony based on numbers and availability. Students who are receiving an award will be notified prior to Thursday, May 6.
The ceremony will take place, but parents will not be permitted to attend in person. We will livestream the event so all family members will be able to watch from the safety of their home. We understand this is disappointing, but promise a livestream that will be “close up” so families can see the speakers and, more importantly, the recipients. As a school, we hired our school photographer, Dorian Studios, to be at the event and to take a picture of each student receiving his or her award. All families will receive a complimentary photo and the option of ordering more photos directly through Dorian.
We realize that the event needs an audience, but it is impossible to allow each recipient to invite two family members. 8th grade students not being recognized, but in attendance at school as part of Cohort A or B, will be the audience. In addition, all 7th grade students in Cohort A or B will be permitted to attend. Finally, by invitation only, the 6th grade siblings of award recipients, will also be invited to attend. These students will be assigned seats in the bleachers and spaced to adhere to social distancing.
The goal of the 8th Grade Awards Ceremony has always been to celebrate students for making the honor roll throughout their 8th grade year, recognize students who have earned straight As throughout three years of middle school, honor students with our department awards for excellence, and acknowledge recipients of the David Erbach Principal’s Award and the Cory Fish Student Leader Award. We believe this is a tradition that should continue, and we believe our 2021 8th Grade Award Ceremony will meet these traditions as well as the guidelines of CCSD.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at Mannion Middle School.
Go Mustangs!
