Greetings,
As many of you know, our community is struggling to process the tragic death of one of our students. Today, the CCSD Crisis Response Team was available to meet with students who were on campus and processing their grief. Students demonstrated a range of emotions and received a variety of support and services. Ultimately, we believe that the strongest support comes from the home and we encourage our families to process this tragedy as they deem appropriate.
Please monitor any signs of grief or behavioral changes in your child as this loss may affect them in unexpected ways as well as keep your lines of communication open with them. It is important to be honest with your child and allow them to express feelings of disbelief, anger and/or grief. Reassure your child that there is always someone with whom they can talk with and that these feelings are normal. Our school counselors will be available to assist individual students who continue to struggle and request additional support, but many students mask their grief. If you know your student is struggling, please let us know how we can provide support.
During the next few days we hope to provide the family with the privacy they need to process this tragic loss. As a school community, we intend to honor the memory of the student and ask for your patience while we assist our students with processing their grief.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child, please call our school at 702-799-3020.
Thank you,
Todd Petersen, Principal
