Morning,
In the past few days, schools across the United States have reported damage to ChromeBooks after a tik tok challenge encouraged students to place metal objects into the USB and/or charger points of ChromeBooks.
In addition to being very dangerous, the trend also damages the ChromeBook beyond repair. Sadly, our community is not immune from such challenges.
I am asking all parents to take a few minutes to explain to their student that the ChromeBook costs $400. Students who participate in such challenges not only will be fined for the cost of the ChromeBook, but will also be cited by CCSD Police for a misdemeanor as it is willful damage to school property. In our code of conduct, it is considered vandalism, and appropriate discipline actions, in addition to fines, will be applied.
I believe our students will not participate in such challenges; however, I also have seen the powerful influence of social media over middle school students. Please have a conversation with your student to emphasize the value of the ChromeBook and the consequences for participating in such challenges.
I believe that when the school community partners with our families at home, we have the ability to bring about positive behavior that ensures a safe school environment for all students.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Go Mustangs!
