Good Evening,
First, I hope this email finds you and your family doing well. Never, in our wildest imagination, did we ever think the 2019-2020 school year would play out in such a way. My heart breaks for our community, state, and nation. I know many parents and students have questions, and the purpose of this email is to update you, as best I can, on the current situation, and what will happen in the next few days and possibly the next few weeks.
Per the Governor, all Nevada Schools will remain closed through April 6, 2020. Due to the CCSD calendar, CCSD schools will remain closed through April 13, 2020. Updates on the plan for opening schools, and the impact the closure will have, if any, on the last day of school, will come directly from CCSD. It is imperative that all parents continue to check their email and/or www.CCSD.net for such updates. Mannion remains physically closed to all employees and visitors.
On Friday, March 20, 2020, CCSD Superintendent Dr. Jesus Jara released guidelines for distance learning and attendance. His guidelines will meet the expectations of the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) during this unprecedented time. As principal, it is my responsibility to lead the Mannion staff and community so we meet the expectations of NDE and CCSD. To do this, on Monday and Tuesday of this week, the Mannion staff will be meeting “virtually” to develop our plan of action to implement distance learning. On Tuesday afternoon, I will share with our community the developed plan. Then, on Tuesday evening, I will host a virtual Parent Community Partnership Meeting at 5:30 PM to further explain the plan and answer any parent questions. The link to access this virtual meeting will be released on Tuesday. On Wednesday, our teachers will begin to implement the plan.
Over the next few days, I ask for your patience and understanding. I know that social media is in a frenzy over what schools, across CCSD, are doing, to meet the expectations of distance learning. I made the decision, rather than releasing a plan without teacher and community input, to wait and utilize two days to develop the plan with input from our most valuable resource during this time – our teachers and the parents of our students.
