Greetings & Happy New Year!
Please review the Attendance Zone Advisory Commission (AZAC) flyer for the upcoming public input meeting scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Green Valley High School. At this meeting, members of the public will be given an opportunity to provide input prior to AZAC reaching a final zoning recommendation on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 9:30 a.m., Executive Conference Room at 1180 Military Tribute Place, Henderson, 89074.
The primary reason for this rezoning evaluation is due to a $15 million grant the Clark County School District received from the Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) to implement new Environmental Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math magnet programs at Lyal Burkholder Middle Schools beginning the 2024-2025 school year. This results in the need to dissolve the current Burkholder MS attendance zone. However, currently enrolled sixth- and seventh-grade students will be grandfathered to remain for seventh- and eighth-grade at Burkholder MS, with all incoming sixth grade students going through the magnet lottery process.
The above noted agenda can be viewed on BoardDocs by CLICKING HERE and is posted on the CCSD website. Based on my review of the flyer, the AZAC committee is proposing that a portion of Burkholder (Area B on the map) and a portion of Brown (Area A on the map) be moved to the Mannion attendance zone. There is no proposal to remove any current areas of our attendance zone. Again, please be sure to review the Attendance Zone Advisory Commission (AZAC) flyer.
Comments may also be emailed to AZAC@nv.ccsd.net or mailed to AZAC, 1180 Military Tribute Place, Henderson, NV 89074.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Go Mustangs!
