Greetings,
I hope this update finds you and your family doing well.
As a reminder, teachers will once again begin contacting their assigned “homeroom” of students on Monday, March 30, 2020. Teachers will contact students through their CCSD gmail. We require that the students reply to the teacher’s CCSD email as soon as possible as this will indicate the student’s attendance for the week.
This week teachers will also continue to post learning activities on their classroom websites and host virtual office hours for students. These are NOT mandatory for students to participate. The links and times can also be found on teacher websites.
Spring Break is still scheduled for April 6 through April 13. During these days teachers will not email students for attendance checks and teachers will not host office hours. Learning activities will remain posted on classroom websites, but teachers will not be available to assist students. Office hours and attendance emails will resume on April 14, 2020.
Food distribution sites continue to assist students with learning packets and distribution of breakfast and lunch. Our closes site is Basic High School. Students no longer need to be present as long as the adult has the student’s ID card (ours are conveniently attached to a lanyard) or at least the student’s name, student ID number, school enrolled, and grade. The hours of operation are 8 am to 11 am.
CCSD has established a Learning Line to assist students with learning packets. It is available between 8 am and 4 pm daily. Call 702-799-6644 for assistance.
Schools are scheduled to reopen on April 17, 2020. If this is delayed, we will let you know.
SBACs (State Assessments) are suspended for the 2019-2020 school year.
The Nevada Department of Education will NOT require make-up days for school days missed. The last day of school is still scheduled for May 20, 2020.
Student Council will hijack the school’s Facebook Page for the week and is conducting a virtual spirit week. Students and families can participate in #mannionspritweek and post family pictures.
We are hosting a virtual Scholastic Book Fair. Please visit our school’s library website for more information. https://sites.google.com/nv.ccsd.net/mannion-middle-school-library/home
The Principal’s Book Chat will take place in April. The book is “Where the Red Fern Grows” by Wilson Rawls. The date and time of the Book Chat will announced after Spring Break, but students wishing to participate should purchase/download a copy of the book and get a jump on reading.
An increased emphasis on technology during the school’s closure has increased the need to support parents and students with the latest trends in education. Please visit https://mannionmiddleschool.com/technical-support/ for more information on Google Classroom, Zoom, and Infinite Campus.
I will continue to update our community throughout the week with any new information. I encourage all of you to also follow CCSD on social media and visit CCSD.net for more information.
Stay safe, Mustangs!
Todd C. Petersen, Principal
