Dear Parent/Guardian:
Postural screening, as required by Nevada State Law, will be conducted by a team of school nurses at Mannion Middle School on Thursday, April 6. This screening will only be provided to 8th grade boys and 6th grade girls. Privacy will be maintained within the constraints of the school setting.
- The purpose of postural screening is to detect signs of abnormal spinal development, called Scoliosis, so that the need for treatment can be determined. Most cases of spinal curvature are mild, but may become progressively more severe as the child continues to grow.
- Early treatment can prevent the development of a severe deformity, which can later affect the health and appearance of the child.
- You will be notified only if a possible abnormality is observed and follow-up is necessary.
- This screening does not replace your child’s need for regular health care and check-ups.
If you DO NOT want your 6th grade female student or your 8th grade male student to have a postural screening at Mannion Middle School, please notify the school nurse in writing. You may email her directly at LeachLL@nv.ccsd.net. If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse at LeachLL@nv.ccsd.net or at 702-799-3020, ext. 4020.
Thank you,
Laura Leach, School Nurse
