Good Morning,
I hope this finds you and your family safe. If you, your student, or your family are in need of assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to our staff in the days ahead.
CCSD has cancelled all after school activities for Monday, October 2, 2017. This was also announced to students this morning.
Below is the announcement I read to all students and staff prior to first period this morning:
“Good Morning Mannion Middle School. This is Mr. Petersen, and I need a moment of your attention.
As you all know, last night our community suffered a horrific and tragic event. While the details unfold, I want to personally remind our students that the adults on campus are able to assist you as you process the events.
Many of us may know individuals that may have attended the music festival as guests or hotel employees. In addition, we may have friends and family members that work as first responders as nurses, doctors, and police officers, that quite possibly, we not able to make it home last night.
Today is a day to be sad, but also a day to appreciate all that is good in our community. I am 43 years old, and I, like many of your teachers, will struggle with this. It is unfair to expect you, our students, to be able to process what has happened without additional support.
If you are in need of assistance today, please reach out to an adult on campus. Our counselors and administration are available to assist you to the best of our ability. As with any day, but especially in the next few days, I ask you to be kind to one another, so that the power and light of humanity will overcome its darkness.
As we state the Pledge of Allegiance, and have a moment of silent contemplation, I ask you to use this time to reflect on all of those impacted by last night’s event and honor those whose lives were lost.”
