Greetings,
I hope many of you are about to sit around the dinner table and share positive first day stories. While things were not perfect, I could not be more proud of our staff and students.
I was able to drop into a few “classrooms” today and it was great to see our teachers doing what they love – teaching! The students were remarkable. They were all set up, paying attention, participating, and meeting their new teachers and classmates. The office staff was answering phones, solving problems, and providing technical support. This was a first day I will never forget, and for all the right reasons!!
Tomorrow we will try again. Students should log into Canvas in the morning and look at their calendar to find links for the day’s live instruction. In the event Canvas crashes again, teachers have emailed parents and students the appropriate links for their class periods. These are the same links posted in Canvas, so that will eliminate any confusion if some students are able to access Canvas while others are unable to do so. Finally, Google Meet links will NOT be available on teacher websites tomorrow as this does not guarantee a secure learning environment for students.
Due to the confusion this morning, we went ahead and marked all students as present for today’s learning. Tomorrow, students will need to complete at least 1 assignment or participate in a live Google Meets to have their attendance recorded. Hopefully, if all goes well, students will have their first true Canvas learning experience.
On behalf of our entire Mannion Community – way to go, Mustangs! I am so proud of you!
Todd C. Petersen, Principal
