At approximately 10:30 AM today the Mannion fire alarm went off. As a result, the students and staff evacuated the building. Because the alarm sounded as sixth grade students were transitioning from lunch to third period, there were a number of students who were not able to evacuate with their class. These students joined other classes and through outstanding cooperation and communication by teachers and staff, we were able to account for all students.
Students were safely able to enter the building at 11:00 AM. 7th grade lunch, impacted by the evacuation, was adjusted appropriately.
Each month Mannion Middle School practices evacuations, but for obvious reasons we do not practice during passing periods. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for students to follow the instructions of adults during any and all evacuations and drills. Students need to be alert, paying attention, and listening for instructions.
Although today’s evacuation was the result of a false alarm, I applaud our teachers, staff, and administrators for their outstanding actions during today’s evacuation and I thank our students for their appropriate behavior.
Go Mustangs!
