Greetings,
David Erbach served as the first principal of Mannion from 2004 until 2016. Dr. Erbach passed away on February 15, 2021.
I wanted to share his obituary:
Dr. David William Erbach, 72, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away on February 15, 2021, in his home from heart and renal failure.
Dave was born on June 2, 1948, to Theodore and Angelin Erbach in Chicago, IL. After graduating from St. Viator High School in 1966, he entered the Viatorian Novitiate. The Viatorians or Clerics of St. Viator are religious community of priests and brothers, working in Catholic High Schools. David received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1971 from Loyola University of Chicago. Dave then went on to complete a Master of Arts in Physical Education from Northwestern University in 1974.
Dave was on the faculty of St. Viator High School, his Alma Mater, from 1971 to 1978. He was Associate Dean of Students, American Government teacher, football and basketball coach.
In 1978 Dave was reassigned to Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. At Gorman, he was Assistant Principal, he taught several history classes, coached football and basketball and acted as the Athletic Director for several years. He coached the Gaels to a state championship and was known as “Coach” to many of the students.
In 1983 he decided to leave the Viatorians. While continuing his career at Gorman, he also continued his education and in 1988 received a Master of Education in Administration and Higher Education from University of Nevada Las Vegas. In 1991, Dave became the principal of Bishop Gorman. He continued to teach at the same time and began to work on a Doctorate.
While working on his Doctorate classes in 1994, Dave was introduced to Carol (Brown-Townsend) Erbach through a mutual friend. They married on February 4, 1995. Together they share three children, Jessica (30), Nathan (28) and Matthew (23).
Dave completed his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from University of Nevada Las Vegas in 1996 and in 1998 he retired from Gorman after 20 years. He continued his career in Education with the Clark County School District as an Assistant Principal at Silverado High School until 2000 then as the Principal of Burkholder Junior High School until spring 2004, when the school was closed. In the fall 2004, Dave had the privilege of opening the new Mannion Middle School as Principal and remained there until he officially retired in September 2016. In all, Dave completed 45 years in education. He was a beloved colleague, boss teacher, coach, and friend; affectionately referred to as “Doc” around the Mannion campus.
Dave spent his retirement watching the Chicago Blackhawks hockey, Cubs baseball, and Bears and Notre Dame Football. He was an avid reader, huge history buff and loved talking politics or theology with his friends and relatives. He would have liked to travel more with Carol but his health dictated otherwise. However, he was ever present to see all three of his children get married and in 2018, Dave became a grandpa (Papa) and treasured every moment he had playing with his two granddaughters.
Dave is survived by his wife, Carol; his brothers, Gerald and Edward Erbach; his three children and their spouses: Jessica and Joshua Reynolds, Nathan and Kelsie Erbach, Matthew and Desirae Erbach; and his two grandchildren, Georgia and Harper Reynolds.
A memorial service, “A life well lived”, will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at St Viator Catholic Church.
