Greetings,
Mannion students will complete the ELA and Math SBAC during the month of April with their English and Mathematics teachers. Mannion 8th graders will also take the Nevada Science CRT with their Science teachers.
SBAC Testing
Mannion will use a double-period block schedule (105 minute periods) throughout the month of April to accommodate the testing schedule. With some exceptions, students in each grade level will be testing on the dates listed on the Mannion SBAC Schedule 24-25. Please refer to this schedule to plan for the dates when your child will be testing, and make every effort to have your child at school on these dates. A detailed calendar of testing dates and the block schedule is also available, and Mannion staff will make sure students know the schedule for each day, and English and Mathematics teachers will clearly communicate the testing dates to their students.
Due to the testing security measures from the Nevada Department of Education, students are not allowed to have access to cellphones, AirPods (or other wireless headphones), or smart watches while testing. Students with hair covering their ears will be asked to show their teacher that they do not have wireless headphones. Students are encouraged to leave these items in their locker, and students who bring any of these items to a testing classroom will need to turn the device off, place it in a signal-blocking pouch, and turn it in to their teacher during testing. Students should bring a fully-charged Chromebook, wired headphones, and a book to the testing classroom each day.
Any student who is absent on any of the days of testing will be scheduled for makeup testing. All Mannion students will take the required assessments.
The SBAC, Science CRT, and NAA are used to measure student proficiency and growth in ELA, Math, and Science. The Nevada Department of Education uses Mannion’s participation rate and the students’ results on these assessments to assign a star rating to our school. Participation in the SBAC assessment is required for all Nevada public school students in grades 3-8, per NRS 390.015.
SBAC Incentives
Mannion makes a variety of incentives available to students who are in school on the days of testing, work diligently on each part of the tests, and demonstrate proficiency and/or high growth on the tests.
To promote the importance of these assessments, Mannion has pledged to provide incentives to students based on the following criteria:
- Earn a Level 4: Advanced achievement level or show 100 points growth on the ELA SBAC.
- Earn a Level 4: Advanced achievement level or show 75 points growth on the Math SBAC.
Additional information on this incentive can be found in this flyer.
Additionally, each testing classroom will conduct a raffle on each day of testing to encourage students to be prepared for the SBAC. Parents can also encourage students to prepare themselves for each day of testing by doing the following:
- Be on-time to class
- Bring a book or other reading material
- Bring wired headphones (no AirPods or wireless headphones)
- Leave cellphones and/or smartwatches in locker or store them properly in the classroom
- Have a Chromebook that is charged and ready to use for the entire testing session
- Give a strong effort during the test and use the available time appropriately
NAA
For students who have been identified for taking this assessment, testing is occurring throughout the month of April. Information on this will be communicated by the teacher of any student who will take the NAA.
